Colonic Hydrotherapy
The colon is an organ of elimination. When the capacity of the colon to evacuate or detoxify is overwhelmed, toxins are reabsorbed into the body putting pressure on the other organs like the liver, lungs, kidneys and skin. The importance of the direct relationship between colon health and general health cannot be over-emphasized.
The waste matter, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time (i.e. impacted faeces, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, undigested food, parasites and worms), poses several problems. Firstly this matter is quite toxic (poisonous). These poisons can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired, headachy and bloated. Secondly, impacted waste matter can sometimes accumulate in a bowel pocket causing inflammation known as diverticulitis. Lastly, a build-up of matter can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements and constipation. These conditions are prevalent in all civilized societies, and particularly in the U.K. as it is one of the most constipated nations in the world. Common signs include: headaches, backaches, constipation, fatigue, bad breath, body odour, irritability, confusion, skin problems, abdominal gas, bloating, diarrhoea, sciatic pain and so forth. As you can see, intestinal toxicity is part and parcel of many people’s everyday experience.
Colonic hydrotherapy is a safe and effective method for cleansing the colon of waste material by gentle flushing with warm purified water. Water will be gently introduced to the colon through a small tube that is placed in the back passage. The water will help to soften hardened waste matter which is then piped away. Since your abdomen will be massaged it is a good idea to eat or drink lightly in the 2 hours immediately preceding a colonic.
After the treatment you will feel great and enjoy a sense of well-being. Your tummy will feel flatter, you will digest better, be less bloated and gas, your skin will be clearer and you will feel energised. A course of between 3 and 6 treatments is usually sufficient to fully cleanse the bowel. Some clients will require further treatments, depending on the severity of their condition.
Specifically, a colonic is used to accomplish the following:
• Cleanse the Colon: Toxic material is broken down so it can no longer harm your body or inhibit assimilation and elimination. Once impacted material is removed, your colon can begin again to co-operate as it was intended to. In this very real sense a colonic is a rejuvenation treatment.
• It Exercises the Colon Muscles: The buildup of toxic debris weakens the colon and impairs its functioning. The gentle filling and emptying of the colon improves peristaltic (muscular contraction) activity by which the colon naturally moves material.
• It Reshapes the Colon: When problem conditions exist in the colon, they tend to alter its shape which in turn causes more problems. The gentle action of the water helps to eliminate bulging pockets of waste and narrowed, spastic constrictions finally enabling the colon to resume its natural state.
• It Stimulates Reflex Points: Every system and organ of the body is connected to the colon by reflex points. Colonic stimulates these points, thereby affecting the corresponding body parts in a beneficial way.
Your practitioner might recommend you to have an addition of an enema. Enemas can be coffee, wheatgrass, probiotics or different herbs such as chamomile. They are a great addition to a colonic treatment. They will detox your body and facilitate the clearance of gas and hardened waste. Enemas can help with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as they will help to soothe a stressed colon. Coffee can be used to detox the liver and if the bowel is sluggish. Probiotics are hugely beneficial after a course of antibiotics. The practitioner will decide what to use in your treatment depending on your health.
Pre colonic
Do not eat a huge meal 2 hours before your treatment as your abdomen will be massaged.
Stay away from fizzy drinks and sparkling water for 48 hours before as it can create gas pockets in the colon.
In the days leading up to a colonic make sure you are drinking 1.5L of water a day and decreasing your intake of tea and coffee.
Post colonic
Eat lightly for the day and stay away from alcohol, red meat and refined processed foods as you have just detoxed your body.
Take a course of probiotics (friendly bacteria).
